SPORTS REHAB

At Smith Chiropractic & Sports Rehab, our goal is to find the dysfunction, fix the problem and educate the patient in self-care exercises. We begin our physical assessment with a Functional Performance Exam which pinpoints each individual’s weakest links and based upon the examination's findings we design corrective exercise routines tailored to patients' exact needs.

During training, we continue to assess sports performance and adjust the sports rehab accordingly.

Muscle imbalances prevent joints from aligning and functioning properly. Poor joint function will disrupt the ability to move putting individuals at greater risk for injury, chronic muscle tightness, and joint pain. Restoring life back to normal following an injury, surgery, or a painful condition requires a thorough examination, proper diagnosis, comprehensive treatment, and a specific rehabilitative exercise program.

Our in-house full gym is ideal for functional exercises, personal or team training. We work with our patients with the focus on mobility, stability, strength and power. We train teams and athletes with an emphasis on sports performance.

Gait Biomechanics

We offer gait analysis to assess for abnormal function that might be causing problems. Joint dysfunction or muscle imbalance may force the body to compensate causing stress in other body parts.

Documenting the gait with high-speed film allows us to slow down and view the movements frame by frame to diagnosis abnormal gait patterns. This diagnosis enables us to prescribe the best mobility and strength exercises for optimal performance.

Golf Biomechanics

Qualified as a level 3 medical golf fitness instructor with Titleist Performance Institute (TPI), we offer a three step golf fitness evaluation.

1)  Each golfer is put through a functional evaluation specific to golf to assess for dysfunctional movement patterns.

2) The golf swing is viewed with high speed film to look for faulty swing mechanics.

3) The dysfunctions and faults are analyzed and corrective exercises are prescribed.

Therapeutic Taping

Kinesio® Taping has gained in popularity since its extensive use by the USA Women's Volleyball Team in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.  Taping is effectively used for the treatment of muscle strains, shoulder pain, tennis elbow, sciatic pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, postural problems, and many other musculoskeletal disorders.

Taping is an innovative technique that uses elastic tape wrapped over and around muscle area to assist them, provide them with support, or to prevent them from over-contracting, helping activate your neurological, circulatory, and lymphatic systems.

Taping alleviates pain and facilitates lymphatic drainage by microscopically lifting the skin.  The Tape is applied on the skin to reduce pain and inflammation, relax overused and tired muscles while supporting muscles in movement on a 24 hour per day basis. Kinesio Tape is a non-restrictive type of taping, which allows for full range of motion.

At Smith Chiropractic & Sports Rehab, our Sports Medicine Doctors utilize Kinesio® Taping for two main reasons. First, as a treatment in between treatments. As patients are not seen every day, the taping will provide therapy while the patient is at work and during activities of daily life.  Second, the taping is utilized for specific sporting events and games. Our doctors have taped many runners, triathletes, and other athletes for competition with great results.
